Your committee received fourteen applications in answer to the notices published including some of the most promising and the most prominent of the recent high school graduates. These with such additional matter as accompanied them were carefully reviewed first with Mr. Boone, principal of the Senior High School and then by the committee as a whole. Of this number ten were invited to an adjourned meeting of the committee with a view of studying the applicants personally and their own particular problems. Upon the results of these investigations we recommend as follows:

First, that Norman K. Brown, 655 Park Lake Ave., holder of one of the club scholarships last year to be offered a one half scholarship to assist him to his course the coming year.

Second, that Bert Willis Humphries, 240 Palmetto St. be offered a one half scholarship for the coming year.

Third that a full scholarship be awarded one of the following candidates in order of preference as set out below:

1- Joffre C. David, 622 N. Hughey St.

2- Richard Hazard, 328 E. Jackson St.

3- Clifford B. Haughton, Jr., 801 Anderson St.

It is the opinion of the committee that the applications this year represent young men of unusual merit and promise. It is with a definite sense of regret that we find ourselves unable to extend our assistance to a greater number of the group. We have however endeavored to adhere strictly to the two requirements: that the candidates be outstanding students with promise of success in future life which may best be realized by college training; and that they be unable to pursue their courses without outside assistance. The first two cases are a compromise on the second requirement just mentioned since it appears that these two boys are only partly dependent on outside aid.
