The John Young House

What’s it like to live in the house of a famous astronaut? George Williston shares some of the memorable stories of living in The John Young House at the College Park Historical Committee meeting on February 25, 2013. LISTEN (14:20)

John Young grew up in College Park, attended Princeton School from 1936-1942, received the Guernsey Citizenship Award in high school, and was honored as outstanding Orlando High School Scholar before going off to Georgia Tech to earn highest honors in aeronautical engineering, walk on the moon and, as they say, make history.

His boyhood home at 815 West Princeton Street is recognized with a state historical marker dedicated on January 22, 1999. See the historical documentation for the John Young House marker.

LISTEN as College Park resident George Williston tells the story of meeting John Young’s valet on his front porch and driving a GTO at 160 MPH on the NASA runway, meeting Tom Brownley of Brownley Electric and sharing his John Young story, and other visitors who come to the house on a mission.

Like Orlando native John Young, George Williston has a strong connection to our community and says, “We just absolutely love being in College Park. We love Orlando and the College Park neighborhood is phenomenal. It is very, very unique.”
