Time Lapse of the Demolition of the Murrell Building

Demolition of the Murrell Building

Disappointed by the growth of office spaces and high rises in Orlando, Eugenia Sefnik and Lynn Long formed the Orlando Land Trust in 2015. They had previously gone to the City of Orlando to talk about zoning and other regulatory issues regarding the lack of green spaces but ultimately decided to take matters in to their own hands.

The Orlando Land Trust was formed with the intention of buying the Murrell Building and expanding Lake Eola Park. The two women were able to secure a price for the building, which was then housing the 7-11 on Central and Rosalind in Downtown Orlando. Over the course of the next few years, they raised $3.5 million to purchase the building. The Orlando Land Trust then deeded the land to the City of Orlando, with the specification that it only be used for park space.

This time lapse was taken over a course of hours on May 2, 2022. The expansion of Lake Eola Park is set to finish in Fall 2022.
