The Orlando Sports Stadium / Eddie Graham Sports Stadium
The second concert I attended at the Orlando Sports Stadium / Eddie Graham Stadium was on 23 April 1971 with my friend Judy Jackson and my aunt Iris Beecher. Three Dog Night was performing and we all liked their music. My aunt (only a year and a half older than I) was visiting from Georgia at the time and neither she nor my friend had been to a rock concert before. That made me the expert.
We decided on floor seating (literally sitting on the concrete floor) and made our way all the way to the front of the stage. At the time Three Dog Night consisted of Chuck Negron, Danny Hutton, Cory Wells, Mike Allsup on guitar, Jimmy Greenspoon on organ, Joe Schermie on bass, and Floyd Sneed on drums. They were great! That night they sang One Man Band, Its For You, One, Easy to be Hard, Chest Fever, Eli’s Coming, Mama Told Me Not to Come, Celebrate, Feeling Good, Liar, and Joy to the World.
I was able to reach up to the stage and shook hands with Chuck Negron, Danny Hutton, and Cory Wells. I was able to give Chuck Negron a silver ring with cut out little designs and he put it on his pinky finger.
Needless to say, we were very close to the huge Cerwin Vega stacks and could not hear well for several hours. Judy’s aunt lived over near Par Avenue and allowed us to spend the night at her house so we would not have to drive all the way back to Leesburg so late at night. I had a great time and loved the live music – and I still do!
