My two best childhood friends and I drove up to Ichetucknee Springs outside of Gainesville for the day. It was during the off season and hardly anybody was at the park. All the independent inner tube vendors that supply visitors with flotation devices were closed. We only found one open. It was a shack outside of a mobile home that was run by a woman in her late 50s. She rented us our tubes in exchange for my ID. A fair trade considering the adventure that lay ahead of us.

The water was cold and the sky was overcast. Hardly the conditions you would consider for an easy day floating down the springs. It didn’t matter to me. I loved it. I felt like we were in Rambo: First Blood Part II when John Rambo has to sneak through the jungles of Vietnam to save forgotten POWs. And with this mindset we headed down the stream.
