The old Amway Arena, also known as the O-rena and the TD Waterhouse Centre, was brought down in a controlled implosion around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 25, 2012.
Many memories were made at the venue since the grand opening in January 1989 – from high school graduations to concerts with Jimmy Buffet, Paul McCartney, James Taylor, Bare Naked Ladies and so many more – and, of course, Magic basketball, Predators football and hockey with the Solar Bears! But all that ended on March 25, 2012, when demolition crews used about 520 pounds of dynamite to bring down the old arena at a cost of $200 million dollars – almost twice what it cost to build the arena!
