Mrs. Almira Sawyer, widow of the late Gideon Sawyer, who died a soldier in the Union Army, died at her home in Drowned Lands September 3d, aged 71 years, 1 month and 19 days. Mrs. Sawyer was the daughter of James Tyrrel, and was born in 1813 at Drowned Lands, of which place she was at the time of her death the oldest original resident. She was the mother of seven children, two sons and five daughters. George died in the army; Harvey resides at Drowned Lands; one daughter died some years ago, one lives in Texas, one at Yonkers, and two in this section — all married. The funeral services at Drowned Lands M.E. church were conducted by Rev. Mr. Fuller; interment in the burying-ground at that place.
