Moving to Orlando in 1971 was an exciting time. We knew that Walt Disney World was coming to Orlando, but had no idea what it was really going to be. We put our three kids in the car, and drove east on I-4. On the way, the gentle scent of orange blossoms lining the interstate was a heady fragrance to us transplanted Northerners. Once we found our way to the Lake Buena Vista Preview Center, we were in awe of the maps and 3-D presentation. It was hard to believe this was going to be in our back yard. VIEW Preview Booklet
Another time in 1971, we read of a new housing development in Seminole County, called Sweetwater Oaks. We thought we’d like to see these new luxury homes. When we turned off SR 434, it was onto a sandy road, named Wekiva Springs Road that led into the development. The van quickly got stuck in the deep sand, and we never made it to the development.
