A Rose Bouquet for Mother of Bishop William Donald Borders

Joanne Serros presents a bouquet of red roses to Mrs. Borders, mother of Bishop William Donald Borders, at the reception held for him as the first bishop of the Diocese of Orlando.

The reception was held in the Egyptian Room of the Cherry Plaza Hotel at 411 East Central Boulevard on June 17, 1968.

Central Florida was part of the St. Augustine Diocese when in 1968 the two new dioceses were formed in Central Florida, the Diocese of Orlando and the Diocese of St. Petersburg. Before Bishop Borders was assigned to the Orlando Diocese, he was a priest at the Louisiana State University (LSU), Baton Rouge, LA. He served as Bishop from 1968 to 1974 and was Archbishop of the Baltimore Diocese, MD until retirement. He was born in Indiana on October 14, 1914.

Joanne Serros, a student at St. James School, is the daughter Mr. and Mrs. Andy Serros, native Orlandoans. Mr. Serros was on the planning committee for the organization of the Orlando Diocese and participated in the program at the reception.
