For many growing up in Orlando, the lighting of the Merry Christmas sign overlooking Lake Ivanhoe marked the beginning of the holiday season.

Commissioner Robert Stuart who grew up in College Park recalls seeing the sign light up from his home across the lake.
In 1991 the sign was updated to Happy Holidays to reflect the diversity of our Orlando community.
Then after a period of desuetude, the Happy Holidays sign was turned on again November 22, 2013.
