Bill Buning served in WWII from 1942-1945, was wounded in action at the Battle of Ruhr, and was awarded the Purple Heart. Tom’s brother Dan also graduated from West Point and their older brother Rick, Sergeant Buning, served in the Marines in Vietnam. The Buning family are longtime members of St. James Cathedral and have always been very active in community life.
