Orange County Heroes

The following Orange County, Florida servicemen made the greatest sacrifice and gave their lives in the War on Terror. These are the servicemen who died between 2003 and 2009. A Fox News special entitled “Company of Heroes” featured interviews with the mother of Antoine Smith and a performance of “To Serve With Honor” a musical tribute to his life written by Dr. Phillips teacher Jennifer Erickson and performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in March 2005.

Army Sgt. Randy M. Haney, died in Nangarhar, Afghanistan on 6 September 2009, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado. Sgt Haney was 27 years old and a resident of Orlando.

Army Staff Sgt. Jason S. Dahlke, died in Paktika province, Afghanistan on 29 August 2009, of wounds sustained when he was shot by enemy forces on that date while conducting combat operations. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, Ga. He was 29 years old and a resident of Orlando.

Army Spc. Marques I. Knight, died in Aliabad, Afghanistan on 6 September 2008, of wounds suffered when he received small arms fire while on dismounted patrol. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. He was 24 years old and a resident of Orlando.

Army Spc. Seteria L. Brown, died in Sharana, Afghanistan 25 July 2008, of injuries sustained in a non-combat related incident. She was assigned to the 62nd Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, Fort Hood Texas. She was 22 and a resident of Orlando.

Army Staff Sgt. Sandy R. Britt, died near Baghdad, Iraq on 21 August 2007, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit during combat operations. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C. He was 30 years old and a resident of Apopka, Florida.

Army Pfc. Brandon K. Bobb, died in Baghdad, Iraq on 17 July 2007, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 401st Military Police Company, 92nd Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas. He was 20 years old and a resident of Orlando.

Army Spc. Alexander Rosa Jr. died in Muqdadiyah, Iraq on 25 May 2007, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 293rd Military Police Company, Ft. Stewart, Ga. He was 22 years old and a resident of Orlando.

Army Sgt. Gene A. Hawkins died in Mosul, Iraq on 12 October 2006, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his RG-31 mine-protected vehicle. Hawkins was assigned to the 14th Engineer Battalion, 555th Combat Support Brigade (Maneuver Enhancement), Fort Lewis, Wash. He was 24 years old and a resident of Orlando.

Army Pfc. Christopher T. Blaney died in Taji, Iraq on 29 September 2006, from a non-combat related incident. Blaney was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. He was 18 and a resident of Winter Park.

Army Pfc. Sean D. Tharp died in Baghdad on 28 March 2006 from enemy small-arms fire when his unit was conducting dismounted patrol operations. Tharp was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. He was 21 years old and a resident of Orlando.

Army Sgt. Carlos J. Gil died in Humaniyuh, Iraq on 18 February 2005, from injuries sustained from an improvised explosive device detonation. Gil was assigned to the 377th Transportation Company, 181st Transportation Battalion, Mannheim, Germany. He was 30 and a resident of Orlando.

Lance Cpl. Gael Saintvil, United States Marines, died 26 January 2005 when the CH-53E helicopter he was in crashed near Ar Rutbah, Iraq. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base, Hawaii. He was 24 years old.

Army Spc. Daryl A. Davis died in Iraq on 29 November 2004, when his vehicle was involved in a traffic accident between Camp Taji and Adder, Iraq. Davis was assigned to the Army National Guard’s 144th Transportation Company, Marianna, Fla. He was 20 years old and a resident of Orlando.

Antoine Smith 22, Marines, 11.15.2004, Orlando. Lance Cpl. Antoine D. Smith died as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Kenneth Conde Jr. 23, Marines, 7.1.2004, Orlando. Sgt. Kenneth Conde Jr. died due to injuries received from enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Army Sgt. Arthur S. Mastrapa died in Balad, Iraq on 16 June 2004, during a mortar attack when mortar rounds hit his camp. He was assigned to the Army Reserves 351 Military Police Company, 95th Military Police Battalion, 16th Military Police Brigade, Ocala, Fla. He was 35 years old and a resident of Apopka.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Trace W. Dossett died in Al Anbar Province, Iraq on 2 May 2004, as a result of hostile fire. He was assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 14, Jacksonville, Fla. He was 37 years old and a resident of Orlando.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Jason B. Dwelley died in Al Anbar province, Iraq on 30 April 2004, when his military vehicle hit an improvised explosive device while traveling in a convoy. He was a member of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 14, based in Jacksonville, Fla. He was 31 years old and a resident of Apopka.

Army Sgt. 1st Class Bradley C. Fox died in Landstuhl, Germany on 20 April 2004, of injuries sustained when his military vehicle hit an improvised explosive device in Iraq. Fox was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Friedburg, Germany. He was 34 and a resident of Orlando.

Army Spc. Robert D. Roberts was killed in Baghdad, Iraq on 22 November 2003. Roberts died of injuries sustained when a tank collided with his vehicle. Roberts was assigned to A Troop, 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, based in Armstrong Barracks, Germany. He was 21 years old and a resident of Winter Park.
