1945 photos of then six month old Orlando native Betty Cangelose (Wheeler) with her mother, Corrie Cangelose, at Lake Eola.
These photos were sent overseas to her father, Joseph J. Cangelose, in Europe serving in the Army Air Corps in WWII. Joseph Cangelose met Corrie, his first week in Orlando at the Orlando Army Air Base. Corrie, a secretary, was waiting in line to get her pay when he saw her. He told a buddy, “I’m going to marry that girl.”
Mr. Cangelose served his country for 37 years in military and civilian positions in the Army, Air Force, and Navy. He retired as Supervisory Auditor of the Orlando Naval Training Center in 1981.
Daughter, Betty Cangelose Wheeler, is now a practicing attorney in Orlando specializing in civil appellate practice and is the current Director of Outreach Love.
