ABOVE: WWII Veteran Charlie Hayes of Pine Castle shares this World War II photo of his brother in law near the battle at Sainte Mere Eglise in Normandy.
This picture was taken somewhere right close to St. Mere Eglises [the first town to be liberated in France] in there where the Battle of the Bulge was going on. He was in one of Patton’s tank units, George Rollins. His father was the iceman here in Pine Castle… You had a card that had 25, 50, 75, or 100 whichever way you had it set.
