Senator John F. Kennedy and Charles Gray

Senator John F. Kennedy is pictured center stage at the Florida Blue Key Banquet at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Orlando’s Charles Gray, pictured far left in his student days, invited Senator Kennedy to speak at the event.

Mr. Gray recalls it was his wife, top water skier and fellow University of Florida student, Saundra Gray, who suggested it. She said, “I think you ought to invite him [Senator John Kennedy]. I think he’s going places.” Indeed.

Mr. Charles Gray tells how he got involved in politics at the University of Florida and won vice president of the student body against Reubin Askew, in this excerpt from an oral history interview on April 23, 2014 at Gray Robinson law firm in downtown Orlando.
